Teens & Young Adults
We have dedicated our careers to helping people through the phase of ‘emerging adulthood’. This can be one of the most challenging and most exciting times in your life. It’s a time of finding yourself, figuring out your place in the world, dreaming of your future, and navigating new responsibilities and relationships. It’s a time of transition and change, which often comes with a lot of mixed feelings. It’s also the time when most people start to notice changes in their mental health.
Common themes that teens and young adults bring up in therapy include:
- Feeling stuck or uncertain
- Difficulty finding your path in life
- Feeling unfulfilled in relationships
- Coping with bullying or peer pressure
- Dating and sexual relationships
- Pressure to meet certain life milestones
- Exploring your identity
- Depression, anxiety, stress, and overwhelm
- Trying to make sense of a new mental health diagnosis
Did you know?
The COVID-19 pandemic has had dramatic consequences on declining mental health across the country. However, of all age groups – the mental health of teenagers and young adults (aged 15-24) have been most severely impacted by the pandemic (Statistics Canada, 2020).
School shutdowns, losing contact with friends, disruptions in routine, and the loss of major celebrations such as birthdays and graduations can take a very real emotional toll. Even well after lockdowns were lifted, the aftereffects of these disruptions continue to cause problems for many young people.
